Diversity in Design
from different parts of the world.
A six week school project in which we get to choose our own topic and self direct it.
I was curious of the designs from other cultures and how they approach design that differs from the popularized western and European designs that we are immersed by. This curiosity lead to creating a website concept where all types of designs are located in one place and that is the source of exploration, learning, and inspiration.
Design is boundless and diverse. It goes beyond the common concept of western design.
By highlighting a sense of discovery and exploration, I have created an interactive website concept that allows viewers to discover designs from different parts of the world through mapless experience.
Before starting on any visual, I research Vietnam as an example content to get a general idea of the types of designs that would dictate the visual direction of my website.
Visual and Layout
I explored different ways to showcase designs of different cultures and to curate the experience, so I went with the abstract visual direction.
Maps can lead to viewers biased decision in choosing a country they are familiar with or pass by a culture based on a size. Abstracting the visuals, allows each culture a fair chance to be explored as well as for viewers to discover places they haven't thought of.
Discovery and exploration are key components to this website experience. Organic layout gives an opportunity of discovery and interactivity of the shapes with the users that gives the overall experience a sense of journey.
I divided the regions into four major climates: dessert, polar, temperate, and tropical that are represented as four larger circles on the main page.
